Assessing the Vegetation of Abidjan:

Map of Africa with infrared rendering.

Zoomed in par to show most red portion.

Using the Agriculture with DRA rendering and the light grey canvas basemap, we are able to see a clear picture of the divisions between urban city area and the vegetation in Abidjan.

There is a lot of vegetation outside the urban areas especially to the east of Abidjan. On the west sider there is a large area of untouched vegetation as well lodged in between the south western urban area and the northern urban area.

Looking for an Oasis in Egypt

When we switch to the moisture index rating, we can see areas of Egypt that hold the most moisture throughout.

As we move more south along the nile, we find a small oasis like area. This is a zoomed in view of El Fayoum, the oasis.

Showing the water index of the oasis in this photo gives us a clear idea why this area is indeed full of vegetation.

This image shows a zoomed in view of the Bahr Yusef and a secondary canal. The more looping canal is the Bahr Yusef.

In this image, we see a detailed view of the vegetation index within the oasis.

Visualize the Construction of Africa's largest oil refinery.

This is the image of present day Nigeria.

In December of 1999, the area where the oil refinery is today is untouched.

January 2011, shows signs of development near the area of the oil refinery.

In December of 2013, there are signs of work being done on the refinery on its southern side.

January 2015 shows some of the ground has been excavated and the site is being built.

January 2017, shows most of the site with no vegetation and has been actively prepared.

January 2019, shows the development of roads and buildings at the refinery.

February 2022, shows the development of a lot of other industrial buildings as well as a harbor to the south of the refinery.

It's incredible to see how the world has changed over time, especially since I was born into a world where everything has already been developed. Seeing the development happen over time seems a bit like time travel or studying history in a way.

Monitor a lake's water level in Ghana

This image shows the Lake Volta and River Obosum.

This uses the compare imagery window, on the left it shows the river in 2011 and on the right it shows it in 2015.

The imagery comparison tool is very powerful to show the differences of the same area throughout different years. It can help use to understand the impact we have on the environment as well by viewing the changes in our surroundings.
